The Heritage Center, located at the southwestern end of the Oak Ridge reservation, is home to the historic K-25 plant. Building K-25 was constructed during the Manhattan Project to use a gaseous diffusion method to separate uranium-235 from uranium-238.

For thousands of employees, visitors and dignitaries who entered K-25 for many years during the cold war and reindustrialization periods, the small building, K-1000, at the main entrance served as the entry and security checkpoint. That building has been officially renamed The MCLinc Conference Facility at Heritage Center, and opened as a meeting facility for the community to utilize for conferences, seminars or special events.
