Asbestos Analyst/Microscopist

Responsibilities:

  • Preparation and analysis of solid bulk materials for asbestos by polarized light microscopy (PLM – NIOSH 9002 or equivalent methods)
  • Identify asbestos fibers, non-asbestos fibers, and non-fibrous materials in bulk samples
  • Reliably estimate asbestos concentration in bulk materials, either visually or using point counting methods
  • Preparation and analysis of filters for fiber concentration in air using Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM – NIOSH 7400 or equivalent methods)
  • Participate in proficiency rounds required for laboratory accreditation/certification
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology or other scientific field.  Knowledge of optical mineralogy and/or petrography is preferred.
  • Training in determination of asbestos in solid bulk materials by PLM (McCrone Research Institute or equivalent)
  • Training in asbestos fiber counting (NIOSH 582 or equivalent)
  • Minimum three years of laboratory experience in bulk analysis and fiber counting
  • TEM experience is a plus
  • Must have good communication, computer, and organizational skills
  • Should be open to training in other aspects of our business
  • US citizenship required

ICP-MS Chemist

Responsibilities:

  • ICP-MS analysis of samples and quality control samples for metals and isotopic uranium
  • First level review of results to meet QC acceptance criteria
  • Summarize results in QA format for reporting
  • ICP-MS analysis of performance evaluation samples required for laboratory accreditation
  • Backup ICP-OES analyst
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry
  • 3-5 years of experience as ICP-MS chemist
  • ICP-OES or GC experience is a plus
  • Radioactive Worker II training is a plus
  • Must have good communication, computer, and organizational skills
  • Should be open to training in other aspects of our business
  • US citizenship required
